Obedience Training

Obedience Training explores the conditioning of the body under surveillance, discipline, and internalised control. The performance stages a series of repeated actions; rhythmic, restrained, and discomforting, where gestures become tools of submission and resistance. As the artist exposes the inside of her mouth to a camera, each act of attempted speech is met with a physical interruption, invoking the fear of punishment associated with voicing dissent. The work interrogates the tension between consent and coercion, drawing from experiences of gendered punishment and the silencing of bodies that disobey.
