Body is a Pattern begins with motifs drawn from Anatolian kilim traditions, where patterns carry meaning without being spoken.
The motifs reference Central Anatolian kilim languages, moving between recognition and invention.
They carry past and present, exceeding their original meanings as they are reinterpreted.
The motifs are stitched onto a cotton surface. A surface that absorbs, holds, and stays close to the body. The fabric is hand-dyed, allowing colour to move downward; a slow flow that leaves its own trace.
Some motifs draw from traditional forms, while others are newly composed, influenced by intimate bodily shapes that blur between symbol and anatomy.
Real human hair extends from the lower edge, continuing the body beyond the surface. It falls, gathers, and remains.
The work moves between textile and body, where the body is not shown, but materially present. Pattern carries what it can, while the rest slips beyond it.
