A Quilt to Return To

Medium

Durational performance and textile installation

Date

2026

A Quilt to Return To emerges from conversations with a traditional quilt maker in Turkey and from memories of the domestic spaces in which I was raised. Bringing together live quilt-making and handmade quilts, the work draws on gestures learned through observation rather than instruction: folding, stitching, pressing, and mending.

Through repetition and duration, the performance attends to forms of knowledge historically carried through women's labor and transmitted across generations. These movements, often overlooked through their familiarity, become a way of thinking through memory, care, endurance, and inheritance. As the act of making unfolds in real time, the quilt becomes both an object and an archive, holding traces of the gestures, histories, and embodied knowledge embedded in its construction.
